Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to some of the questions that I receive the most.

Q: Why are you doing this?

A: I love being creative and I am always looking for interesting projects. My decision on this was also influenced by the fact that this is one project that I could begin working on with very limited resources.

Q: Out of all questions to ask, why that question?

A: There are many reasons for choosing this question in particular. First, it is an interesting subject to me and I like to hear what other people have to say. Second, there is no broader question someone could ask, which makes the variety of answers infinite. Finally, I think that more people should think about the meaning of life on a regular basis. Perhaps, it would solve some of the problems in this world.

Q: How did you come up with this idea?

A: About two years ago, I was sitting around thinking of ideas for projects that I could work on that require very little money. I checked my email and found someone had forewarded me a chain letter. I wondered what would happen if I sent a chain letter out asking people what their thoughts were on the meaning of life. Well, since I dislike getting chain letters, I never did anything with the project. Two years later, I was looking through old stuff and came across this idea again. I still did not like chain letters, but a website seemed like a good way to undertake the project. So, here it is.

Q: How long do you expect it to take to be published?

A: I think that by the summer of 2007 I should have received enough entries and artwork, had to time to compile and organize the layout, and submit it to a publisher. I am unsure how long it will take after that, but I hope not too long.

Q: When is the deadline for submissions?

A: I started this site on March 15th, 2006 and I am accepting submissions for one year. So the deadline for all answers and artwork is March 15th, 2007.

Q: Are you the first to do this?

A: After I began this project, I thought I would check to see if anything similar book had already been made. To date, I have found only one other person who did something similar. Through a web forum, he collected answers on the subject and then got it published. It was realeased in September, 2005. I bought the book to support it. It is definitely an interesting read. Here is a link to check it out: The Real Meaning of Life by David Seaman.

Q: If something similar has already been done, why are you doing it?

A: I decided to continue with the project for a couple reasons. The main reason for continuing is that there are many books released that have the same subject; they are simply approached differently. I thought that though these are going to be similar in subject, I believe the books will be very different in a lot of ways.

Q: How is this book going to be different?

A: It is going to be more of a worldwide collaboration. Entries in other languages will be added to the book in the native language as well as an English translation. Also, the book will include artwork submissions from people around the world. Finally, the general style and feel of the book will be different. I am not saying any of these changes will make my book better, just different.
